‎Food safety key to MSME growth - Ghana Standards Authority ‎

‎Small and medium-sized businesses in Ghana’s food processing industry are being encouraged to treat food safety as a vital part of their business strategy, not just a regulatory obligation.

‎According to a citinewsroom.com report, Chief Scientific Officer, Roseline Esi Amoah, at the Ghana Standards Authority, made the statement during the second day of the Agribusiness Launchpad and Accelerator Programme hosted by Impact Food Hub in Accra.

‎She noted that many MSMEs lose out on market opportunities because of poor hygiene practices and weak quality control.

‎She urged businesses to adopt proper food safety measures and align with national standards to boost their competitiveness.

‎“Food safety is about more than ticking boxes. It’s about doing the right things, from sourcing safe ingredients to keeping facilities clean and following good manufacturing practices, ” she said.

‎Mavis Owureku-Asare, CEO of Impact Food Hub, reinforced this point by emphasising the need for businesses to prepare for certification from regulatory bodies such as the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA).

‎She advised agribusinesses to put proper systems in place early on to ensure smooth certification processes later.

‎They emphasised that food safety is key to gaining market access and ensuring the long-term success of agribusinesses in Ghana.
