Focus on poor internet, not military officers – NDC communicator tells Sam George

A communicator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament Samuel Nartey George to focus on addressing internet-related challenges rather than confronting military officers over the execution of their duties.

According to him, a high-tension electricity pole was at risk of collapsing due to sand-winning activities in the area, prompting the military to intervene and deal with those responsible.

He criticised Sam George’s approach to the matter, describing it as disrespectful and undignified, and called for it to be condemned.

“The ECG high-tension lines with 66,000, that is what people are winning sand under, and it was about falling off, which could lead to a blackout within the area at Akosombo. The military officers were ordered to clear the people from the system, and you question them on who authorised them.

“He knows very well that the pole was at risk, and he warned them as if we were in a military regime. Who are you, and when did you become a minister, to speak in that manner? How can you announce a soldier’s service number and insult him? If I were there, I would have replied to him,” he said while speaking on TV XYZ.

The NDC communicator urged the Communications Minister to channel the same energy into engaging telecommunications companies to address concerns over data consumption and slow internet speeds.

“The collapse of the high-tension line would have affected the whole country. Data bundles don't last long, and the internet is a problem to the extent that it's difficult to download things in some locations, yet you can deal with the telcos,” he added.

Samuel Nartey George recently lost his cool during an encounter with a military officer identified as Lieutenant Albert Goh over allegations that the officer had been terrorising residents of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

According to the minister, the officer allegedly stormed the constituency with heavily armed soldiers and seized several trucks without any lawful order.

He also described Lieutenant Goh as a disgrace to the Ghana Armed Forces and called on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to take disciplinary action against him.
