Florida University collaborates to promote trade in West Africa

Accra, May 4, GNA - The University of Florida (UNF) Students in Free Enterprise (FIFE) is to establish a centre at the University of Ghana to promote trade and business in West Africa.

The programme to be named, Centre for Education and Free Enterprise in West Africa (Ghana) would also promote exchanges of faculty and students between universities in Ghana and the University of North Florida.

Mr Theodore Sylvester John, Director of International Affairs of SIFE announced this at a press conference in Accra on Thursday. He said consultations have been held with the authorities of the University of Ghana for the project.

Mr John said the programme would take effect from 2001 and would enhance the spirit of free enterprise throughout the region. He said the programme has been divided into three phases.

These are an exploratory study to be conducted, collection of data and proposal writing and the actual implementation of the process. He said a similar programme has been established in Senegal and expressed the hope that the one in Ghana would be a success.
