Flood victims receive relief items

Bolgatanga, Sept. 07, GNA - The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council on Thursday, began the distribution of relief items donated by government to Municipal and District Assemblies for flood victims in their areas.

The items included rice, blankets, cooking oil, roofing sheets, plastic cups and used clothing. Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly received 100 bags of rice, 37 cartons of cooking oil and 75 pieces of plastic cups. Talensi-Nabdam, Bongo and Kassena-Nankana District Assemblies each received 100 bags of rice, 30 cartons of cooking oil and 75 pieces of plastic cups.

Bawku Municipal Assembly received 140 packets of roofing sheets, 140 bags of rice, 37 cartons of cooking oil and 75 pieces of plastic cups.

Bawku West, Garu-Tempane and Builsa District Assemblies each received 120 bags of rice, 37 cartons of cooking oil and 75 pieces of plastic cups. In addition, Bawku West and Builsa District Assemblies had 120 packets of roofing sheets each and the rest 100 packets of roofing sheets.

Each assembly also received 200 pieces of blankets and two bales of used clothing.

Mr Alhassan Samari, Upper East Regional Minister, presenting the items warned the assemblies to ensure they were presented to the vulnerable mostly affected by the floods. He said the distribution was based on statistics provided by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) depending on the extent of damage caused by the floods in each municipality or district. Mr Samari assured the victims that more relief items would be presented to them.
