Flights Saga: Watch Afenyo-Markin's furious reaction when asked about Fordjour's evidence

Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin

The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, expressed his displeasure with a question he was asked on the allegation of cocaine smuggling by a member of his caucus, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, during an interview on UTV on April 9, 2025.

The UTV journalist asked Afenyo-Markin if he was privy to the evidence Rev Ntim Fordjour has regarding his allegation that two planes which landed at Kotoka International Airport were used to smuggle cocaine and launder money.

But the Minority Leader took issue with being asked if he knew of the 'sensitive evidence' Rev Ntim Fordjour said he had.

“How can you ask me this question? I won't answer this question. No, no, no, no. But you can't be asking me questions about my caucus. I can't answer them. It is not right.

“You can't ask me whether my committee leader (sic)... I won't get into that area with you. I will not get into that area with you. No. It's not appropriate,” he fumed.

When the journalist insisted that he answer the question, Afenyo-Markin said, “Do you want us to have a good end to this show?”

Background:

Rev John Ntim Fordjour, who is the MP for Assin South and the Minority's Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, claimed at a press conference on April 1, 2025, that two flights — an air ambulance and a private jet — might have been involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.

He alleged that one of the aircrafts, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and stayed for five days without any record of transporting a patient.

These allegations led President John Dramani Mahama to order security agencies to “immediately and fully collaborate with the honourable Member of Parliament so he provides all necessary information to investigate the allegations and take all action necessary to expose any drug dealing.”

President Mahama also directed all security agencies to work with Rev Ntim Fordjour to investigate the drug trafficking and money laundering claims involving the two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

He emphasised that Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, officials of the NIB stormed Ntim Fordjour's residence to pick him up for questioning over his allegation.

However, the officers left the residence without arresting him after the intervention of leading figures of the New Patriotic Party, including Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
