Flagstaff House is now safe – Mahama Ayariga

The Government says all the security concerns which delayed relocation of the Presidency from the Castle to the imposing Flagstaff House have been taken care of.

The India-sponsored edifice was a subject of heated political debate between then President Kufuor’s government and then opposition NDC.

The NDC at the time found it befuddling for such a sprawling edifice to be put up while, in the party’s view, critical issues such as provision of water amongst others went unattended to.

The party also raised security concerns about the structure which is adjoined to the French Embassy on its right as well as leakage in the roof of some offices.

The Kufuor government insisted the Presidency needed a befitting residence.

Speaking to XYZ News, Information Minister Mahama Ayariga said the government now feels comfortable moving into the edifice after all security concerns were addressed.

Meanwhile, Former President Kufuor’s Spokesperson, Frank Agyekum has told XYZ News that his boss is very happy the edifice is now being used for its intended purpose.

“He is very happy that finally the building is going to be used for the purpose for which it was built for. He is very glad that finally government has decided to use the building”.
