The race to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections has officially begun, with five prominent figures formally submitting their nomination forms to contest the party’s presidential primaries.
In a press release issued on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee confirmed that all five aspirants who had earlier picked up nomination forms have successfully filed their completed documents.
The confirmed candidates are Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The General Secretary, acting on behalf of the National Council, launched the nomination process on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Nominations were officially opened for interested party members to declare their intent to lead the NPP into the next electoral season.
In its statement, the Committee reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, fair, and credible primary process, assuring party members and the general public that all necessary measures are being taken to uphold the integrity of the election.
“The Committee assures all stakeholders of its commitment to a transparent, credible, and fair process, guided by the Party's Constitution and Regulations, to ensure the integrity of the process,” the release, signed by the Committee’s Secretary, William Yamoah, stated.
The party is gearing up for a highly competitive internal election, set to take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to determine its next flagbearer.
