Five die in vehicles collision

Juaso (Ash), June 7, GNA - A head-on collision between a cargo truck and a Kumasi-bound Neoplan bus at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South district in the early hours of last Saturday claimed four lives on the spot and another later at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital in Kumasi.

Several others, who sustained various degrees of injuries were treated and discharged at the Juaso district hospital while those in critical conditions were referred to other facilities. All three on board the cargo truck, which was loaded with boxes of tomatoes died in addition to the conductor of the bus.

Police Chief Inspector J.K. Amoabeng, District Officer in-charge of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) gave the names of the deceased as Boateng also known as Paa Yaw, driver of the truck, Osei Kwame, Victor Amuzu and Major Amuzu.

Another woman believed to be the owner of the tomatoes was yet to be identified.

Chief Inspector Amoabeng could not immediately ascertain the cause of the accident but eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency that the bus was overtaking a vehicle ahead of it when it collided with the oncoming truck. 07 June 06
