A Circuit Court at Aflao has sentenced a fisherman to seven years in prison for detaining and defiling a school girl, aged 14.

Bless Kusese, 20, has pleaded not guilty.

The facts as told the court presided over by Mr Ali Baba Abature are that the accused, a fisherman, lived at Atiavi in the Keta Municipality, where the victim, a Junior High School student, also resided with her parents.

The prosecution said sometime late 2017, the victim was sent to the market in the town alongside her aunt for ingredients for meals for the family.

The victim, at about 1400 hours left her aunt for food - 'wakye' a street corner away from the market.

The prosecution said the accused met the victim at an obscure point of the path, dragged her into his room close-by, threatened to kill her if she shouted, and had sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecution said victim’s family, alarmed at her prolonged absence, began a search for her and this continued till she was seen the following day when she narrated her ordeal.
