The Governing Council of the Koforidua Polytechnic, has sworn into office a 44-year old Professor Smile Afua Gavua Gyisi, as the fourth Rector of the polytechnic.

Prof Gyisi by her position, becomes the first female Rector of a Polytechnic in the country.

Swearing her into office, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Prof Esther Sakyi-Dawson, reminded the new rector that for the polytechnic to succeed, it would require definitive executive leadership, and urged her to remain committed to the vision and mission of the polytechnic.

She urged the new rector to chart new paths and attain new heights of sustainable achievements.

Prof Sakyi-Dawson assured the new rector of the support of the governing council and the entire polytechnic staff.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, congratulated the new rector, and reminded her that the role of polytechnic authorities was to advise and work closely with state institutions, to foster quality and excellent teaching and learning, and the growth and development of polytechnic education.

He said government took Education at all levels very serious, and looked forward for a closer collaboration between the polytechnic and the Regional Coordinating Council.

In her maiden address, Prof Dzisi said her vision was to lead the polytechnic to become a university and the most preferred destination for learning, as well as a human resource base for industry in Ghana and the world.

She promised to lead the polytechnic to become a centre of excellence in teaching and applied research, and a beacon of solutions to community problems in Ghana and beyond.
