Firefighters from the Sekondi Metro Fire Station successfully rescued a victim trapped in a vehicle early Saturday morning, following a severe road crash on the Kumasi-Shama Road in the Western Region.

The incident occurred when a commercial bus collided with a private car, leaving one person severely injured and trapped inside the wreckage.

According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) shared on Facebook, a Dual-Purpose Tender carrying a crew of seven, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Kingsley Anane, was immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving the emergency call, as reported by myjoyonline.com on July 14, 2025.

Upon arrival, the rescue team found a Kia Rano vehicle pinned underneath a larger Nissan Howo truck, with one person trapped inside; thus, firefighters worked diligently, using specialised equipment to cut through the mangled metal and extract the individual.

Utilising hydraulic rescue tools, the statement said the firefighters created enough space to safely free the casualty, who was then handed over to the police at the scene.

However, the rescue operation was completed by 5:35 AM, after which the victim was rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical attention.

The GNFS has not yet confirmed the condition of the rescued individual, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Authorities are currently looking into the details of the incident, and the Kumasi Police Service has urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to road safety regulations to prevent future accidents.

The statement read, "The Fire Service urged all motorists to drive with extreme caution, particularly during the early morning hours when visibility and alertness are often compromised."

Witnesses have praised the swift response and professionalism of the firefighters and the crucial role of emergency services in ensuring public safety, the report added.
