A devastating fire at the Flour Mills Ghana Company Ltd (GAFCO) building in Tema's Industrial Area on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, severely damaged parts of the facility, destroying crucial electrical and production machinery.

The inferno, which swept through floors 4 to 10 of the 10-storey structure, consumed electric panels, cables, and essential production equipment.

Swift action by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was critical in containing the blaze and preventing more widespread destruction.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh on May 21, 2025, the GNFS Public Relations Officer for Tema, Ebenezer K. Yenzu, confirmed that firefighters responded to the distress call at 8:46 AM.

One worker has been transported to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority Clinic due to smoke inhalation but has since been stabilised and discharged.

"By 10:08 AM, the incident was under control, and it was finally extinguished at 12:38 PM," Yenzu stated.

GNFS Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusie Sarpong Ntow, accompanied by other senior officials, visited the scene to assess the damage and reassure stakeholders.
