An 18-room compound house at Kpaguri – a suburb of the Wa Municipality in the Upper West region – was razed down by fire on Tuesday morning.

The fire, according to the tenants, started around 11am and before personnel of the fire service arrived at the scene, properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis had been consumed by the flames.

One of the Tenants who spoke during a visit to the scene by the regional Minister, Suleiman Alhassan, said she has lost everything including her children’s clothing and certificate she acquired from the University for Development Studies.

She disclosed that the fire was raging in two different angles making it difficult for them to stop it from spreading.

According to her, several calls to the Ghana National Fire Service went unanswered until a Good Samaritan rushed to their offices to inform them, but was too late to salvage the situation.

The Regional Minister has since directed the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to assess the situation and extend support to the victims.
