Filling Stations reduce fuel prices but drivers yet to act

Takoradi, March 11, GNA - Some filling stations in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis have begun selling fuel at the new prices released by the National Petroleum Authority but commercial drivers are yet to reduce their fares. Many residents commended the government for the reduction but stressed that the reduction was insignificant. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Mr Godfred Adzipoe, a driver at the Sekondi-Takoradi taxi station, said the reduction in the fuel price would not reflect in his pocket. He said the margin of reduction could lead to arguments and

misunderstanding between passengers and commercial drivers over the

conversion of new reduction. "We cannot reduce the prices of fuel now until a decision has been made by the national GPRTU so we will stick to the old fares". Madam Leticia Addo, a passenger, said the price of petrol should not have been reduced since passengers are not going to benefit from it. She added that the reduction is not significant and suggested that the govenment should revert to the old price.

A visit by the GNA team to most of the fuel stations in Takoradi indicated that prices of petroleum product had been reduced. Mrs. Yvonne Edzii, Manageress of Edzii Goil Service Filling Station, said the reduction took effect on March 9 at 6pm. She explained that the price of super oil, which was A2GH3.70 is now selling at A2GH3.50; diesel, which sold for A2GH4.00 now sells at ¢3.80; and that of kerosene which was A23.15 now sells at A23.00.\ She said the reduction was good but noted that commercial drivers

would benefit to the detriment of passengers. Some officials of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU),

when contacted, said they were awaiting directives from their national

headquarters.
