The Minister of Defence-designate, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has pledged to strengthen Ghana’s defenses against the growing threat of terrorism in West Africa.
During his vetting session by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, he outlined his strategy for enhancing the nation’s security.
Dr. Omane Boamah stressed the urgency of completing Ghana's Fractional Orbital Bombardment Systems (FOB) to improve early threat detection and response capabilities.
He drew attention to the increasing incidents of terrorism in neighboring countries, emphasising that Ghana must take proactive measures to secure its borders.
“Terrorism has reached our doorstep, and while successive governments have made commendable efforts to address it, reports of dormant cells indicate that we must remain vigilant,” he warned.
He highlighted the strategic importance of advanced technology, such as the FOB systems, in monitoring and protecting Ghana’s extensive 2,000-kilometer border.
“The FOB systems are critical for ensuring early detection and interception of incursions by terrorist groups. These tools will enable us to secure our borders effectively,” he noted.
Dr. Omane Boamah reaffirmed his commitment to national security, assuring the Committee that every effort would be made to protect the nation from potential threats.
“You have my assurance that we will do everything within our power to safeguard our dear nation from any potential threats,” he concluded.
