Few health personnel performing well- Dr. Anemana

Sekondi, Feb. 13 GNA- Dr Sylvester Anemana, Western Regional Director of Health Services has noted that, while many health personnel were leaving the country, the few dedicated ones who have chosen to remain, have been doing extremely well, to provide improved health service to the people.

He said though health personnel were facing several challenges they were still willing to sacrifice for the good of the country. Dr. Anemana said this at the first annual Western Regional awards ceremony of the ministry at Sekondi on Thursday. He charged health personnel, to do everything within their means to provide quality health service to the people, in spite of the constraints.

"Hard work pays, and so I challenged you to give of your best", he said.

Twenty-two health workers and institutions that were honoured, were presented with certificates, plagues, television sets, Digital Video Disc, fax machines, gas cookers and suitcases. Mr. Philip K. Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan (SAEMA) Chief Executive said the honouring of the health personnel would motivate them to work even harder.

He said inadequate staffing, long working hours and the use of obsolete equipment should not discourage them from giving of their best. Mr. Nkrumah said SAEMA would assist in solving some of the health needs by providing facilities including staff bungalows for health workers. He appealed to the management and staff of the MOH and the Ghana Health Service (GHS), to continually use dialogue as a negotiating tool with the government.

Dr. Linda Van-Otoo, SAEMA director of health services speaking on behalf of the award winners urged the various district assemblies to support medical personnel in the discharge of their duties at their respective locations.

She reminded health personnel to be mindful of their activities adding "whatever you do has an impact on the lives of others who you may not know".

The Saint Martin De Pores Hospital at Eikwei was adjudged the best Hospital in the Western Region while Mr. Oscar Amissah of the regional medical stores, was adjudged the best health worker in the region. The best district health worker went to Dr. Alexander Akwesi Obeng of the Enchi Hospital while the Kangbili Health Centre in the Nzema East also took the best community support award.

The Regional Directors special award went to the Word Alive Missions Nursing School at Essiama.

The school has trained 22 community health nurses who would be posted to the various health institutions in the country.
