Fetteh Asafo demonstrates against installation of second chief

Members of the Asafo Company at Gomoa Fetteh, on Friday, staged a peaceful demonstration at the Gomoa District Assembly at Apam and the office of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council at Assin against an unsuccessful attempt by some people to install a second chief for the town.

Wearing red armbands, members of the Asafo presented petitions to the District Chief Executive and the Omanhene appealing to them to bring those involved to book to promote development.

Mr. J. K. Otoo, spokesman for the group told newsmen that Fetteh already has a chief in the person of Nana Abor Yamoah II who was gazetted in 1997 and has been performing his functions as the Twafohene of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional area.

He said the people of the town have no problem with Nana Yamoah to warrant the installation of another chief.

"What the town need now is peace and unity for Nana Abor Yamoah to continue with the policies and programmes he has initiated to improve standard of living of the people, Mr. Otoo said.

When contacted Nana Yamoah said those aggrieved with his installation should seek redress through the appropriate channel such as the judicial committee of the traditional council and should not take the law into their own hands to disturb the peace of the town.

A faction opposed to Nana Yamoah attempted in September last year and again on Saturday, to install a chief for the town, which was resisted by the Asafo Company.
