Fatau Dauda on Sports Check

Only two years ago he was among the 23 players considered worthy enough to represent Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations played in Gabon but today Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda is back home trying to relaunch his career with Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars.

While he has seen it all in terms of competitions and big payday, Dauda is not perturbed that his colleagues may think of him as a failure because he has returned home after successful stints in the South African league and the Nigerian League where he played for Orlando Pirates and Eyimba FC respectively.

He believes his critics will soon come to appreciate that return home is only a mean to an end and not an end in itself.

Taking his turn on Ghanaweb’s Sports Check programme today December 8, Fatau Dauda also shares the incredible insight of playing at the Fifa World Cup and against some of the best players such as Cristiano Ronaldo.

At 34, Dauda says he still has ambitions of returning to the Black Stars fold and would not give up on that objective without giving it his best shot.

He has thoughts on why Adam Kwarasey left the Ghana Black Stars, why Jordan Ayew is so good from the penalty spot and why Coach Kwasi Appiah deserves another chance to lead the senior national team.

In this riveting interview, Dauda attempts to bring clarity on the chaos that disrupted Ghana’s 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil and how it felt when the Black Stars lost the 2015 AFCON to Ivory Coast on penalties after taking a ‘comfortable’ lead.
