Farms destroyed by Fulani herdsmen cattle at Nkoranza

Nkoranza (B/A), July 8, GNA - A number of food-crop farms at Kataba, a farming settlement near Sessiman in Nkoranza have been destroyed by cattle belonging to Fulani herdsmen in the area. Nana Yaa Saa, former queen mother of Timiabu and an opinion leader at Sessiman told the Ghana News Agency in the area that, the herdsmen who live in tents with their families have been in the area for about three months.

She said all efforts made to drive them away had proved futile, adding, it was disheartening that a number of farms containing yams, cassava, maize and vegetables had been destroyed by the animals. Nana Saa added that the main streams in the area such as Kunkunu, Traa, Suakru, Asuosika and Srasua have also been destroyed by the animals.

She complained that the youth and farmers in the area whose farms had been destroyed by the animals had decided to attack the herdsmen. She urged the Nkoranza North and South Districts Security Committees to consider the plight of the farmers and ensure the evacuation of the Fulani herdsmen and their animals from the area to avert any clash.

The people in the area have, therefore, called on Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister and the Regional Co-ordinating Council to take action and address the issue.
