Farmers assault teachers for refusing them admission

Suhum, Oct 20, GNA - Four people, including a woman, who severely assaulted teachers at Kofi Pare Roman Catholic Junior High School, near Suhum, without any provocation have been arrested and placed in police custody at Suhum.

The names of the suspects are being withheld to enable the police to complete investigations into the case.

Police sources told the Ghana News Agency that on October 15, the suspects and others now at large, went to their farms and harvested cocoa. On their return, the suspects, who were heavily drunk, and also believed to have taken some hard drugs, went to the school and requested the teachers to write their names for admission. When the headmaster of the school told them that they could not be admitted, the suspects became annoyed and assaulted the teachers and some pupils who went to the rescue of their teachers. The case was, therefore, reported to the Amankrado of the town, Nana Akusa II, who also reported to the Police and the suspects were arrested. According to the Police sources, the suspects would soon be arraigned before court after investigations had been completed.
