Farmer remanded for defiling 10-year-old girl

A 35-year-old farmer accused of defiling a 10-year-old girl at Oyibi in Accra was on Thursday remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

Paul Agbeko, charged with defilement, has denied the offence.

Agbeko is expected to re-appear before the court presided over by Ms. Sedina Agbemava on June 5.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kofi Atimbire said, the complainant is the victim’s father who resides at Oyibi with his family.

Inspector Atimbire said Agbeko is a farmer who lives at Appolonia, near Oyibi.

According to the prosecution, Agbeko has a friend known as John who resides at the victim’s house, and so he visits the friend, and sometimes spends some days there.

The prosecution said on April 27, this year, Agbeko as usual visited his friend in the house and was in the room alone, while the victim’s mother had gone to see her sister in law, one Edem off, the victim was with her two other siblings in the kitchen.

Agbeko took advantage of the absence of the victim’s mother, and lured her into the friend's room, gave her biscuit and had sex with her.

Soon after the mother returned she enquired about the whereabouts of the victim and her siblings told her that Agbeko had called her into friend’s room.

The prosecution said the victim’s mother called out her v name and she responded in the room.

When the victim was quizzed by her mother and other neighbours, she disclosed that Agbeko has had sex with her on four occasions, including that day.

According to the victim, Agbeko, however, warned her not tell anyone else he would kill her.

The prosecution said a report was made to the police and the girl was issued with a medical form for medical examination and treatment.

The prosecution said Agbeko was subsequently arrested.
