Farmer remanded for causing harm to student

The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District has remanded into prison custody, Attah Akosah, 27, a farmer, at Benim in the Mampong Municipality for slashing a student with a cutlass,

The accused was alleged to have inflicted deep cutlass wounds on the neck and head of the student of Adu Gyamfi Senior High School at Jamase in that Municipality.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the two counts of causing harm and using an offensive weapon and the Court Presided over by Mr. Abdul Yussif Assibey, remanded him in prison custody to reappear on Thursday, April 18, 2019.

DSP Ransford Nsiah prosecuting, told the Court that on Wednesday March 20, 2019, the student together with his colleagues, who is the complainant in the case, went to a stream at Benim, to fetch water.

He said they met the accused having his bath in the river and asked him to come out, so that they could fetch some of the water.

The prosecution said this offended accused and coming out of the river, he took a cutlass and slashed the head and the neck of the student who immediately fell down and collapsed.

He said bleeding profusely from his wounds, his colleagues rushed him to the Mampong Government Hospital for treatment and reported the case to Asaam Police station.

The Prosecution said after investigations, the police arrested the accused and took his cautioned statement, after which he was charged with the offence and brought before the Court.
