Farmer jailed for stealing plantain

Nsuta-Ashanti, Oct. 31, GNA - A Circuit court at Nsuta near Asante-Mampong has sentenced a 28-year-old farmer, Boakye Ansah to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour on his own plea for stealing two bunches of plantain valued at 120,000 cedis.

Police Inspector Solomon Etrew, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Justice Uuter P. Dery that following stealing of plantain from his farm, the complainant, Mallam Abubakar decided to keep watch. The prosecution said while watching, the complainant saw the accused also known as Kofi Abuyewah, entering the farm and harvested two bunches of plantain.

He said the complainant raised the alarm and accused took to his heels but was chased, arrested and handed over to the Jamasi police. The prosecution said after investigations the accused was charged with the offence.
