Farmer in court for cutting wife's hand

Asamankese, June 26, GNA - A 36-year-old farmer who allegedly cut off the hand of his wife has appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court charged with intentionally and unlawfully causing harm. Adu Yaw, the culprit, whose plea was not taken, was remanded in prison custody to reappear on July 7.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector R.A. Sapoh, said Adu and his wife, Yaa Kwaah, lived at Okumaning, near Kade. He said for some time now, the couple had been quarrelling, accusing each other of wrongdoing and their Pastor had to intervene to settle the dispute.

On June 2, while the wife was cooking supper in her mothers' house, she sent one of their children to go for the bowl of the accused to be served.

The prosecution said Yaw allegedly refused to give the bowl to the child and so the wife followed up to find out the reason but as soon as he saw her, he rushed to his room and brought out a cutlass. Without any provocation, Yaw allegedly slashed the wife on the left arm, head and jaw, resulting in the loss of her hand. Adu then went into hiding while his wife was rushed to the St. Dominic's Hospital, where she is still on admission. He said on June 4, the accused was traced to his hideout and he was arrested and handed over to the Police.
