Fanteakwa NADMO embarks on flood free campaign.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has stated that the Organisation was no longer giving out relief items to flood victims, for which all persons should take precaution during the raining season.

The Fanteakwa North District Disaster Coordinator, Mr George Opoku Acheampong, explained that per the recent reforms in the NADMO operations, preventions of disaster had become paramount than to assist victims with relief items.

The organisation has therefore embarked on a flood free campaign in Begoro in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region to drum home the new policy.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sideline of a day’s event at Begoro, Mr Acheampong, said the campaign against flooding in the District had become important because a report from the Ghana Metrological Authority suggested that, there will be torrential rains with heavy storm across the country this year.

As a result, there was the need to sensitize the citizens to be aware of the challenges ahead, he added.

Mr Acheampong said the campaign will be replicated in the four main flood-prone areas in the Fanteakwa District which included, Begoro, Bosusu, Nsutem and Osino Zongo to create the needed awareness to save lives and properties.

Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Fanteakwa North and South Assemblies, Mr Charles Oware Tweneboah said, government was ready to assist NADMO to prevent disaster in the country, with a call on citizens to be very responsible in keeping their communities clean.

Staffs of NADMO, Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, opinion leaders and some Assembly Members collaborated in Begoro to campaign against flooding in the District.
