The family of the late former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has officially confirmed her passing.

The announcement was made by the head of her family and Akomfuohene of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie, during a brief interaction with the media in Accra on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

According to Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie, the former First Lady fell ill and was rushed to the Ridge Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, she passed away shortly after being admitted.

"Earlier this morning, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings felt unwell and was subsequently admitted to the Ridge Hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away.

"His Excellency the President was subsequently informed accordingly, and Otumfuo was also informed. His Excellency, the President, has caused an official statement to be made confirming Nana Konadu's death.

"At this stage, the family is obviously in mourning and will crave your indulgence to give us some privacy. All further notices will be relayed by the government," Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie told journalists.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away at the age of 76. Reports indicate that she had been unwell for some time and was under close medical supervision prior to her death.

She was the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, Ghana's first President of the Fourth Republic. A prominent political figure and advocate for women's empowerment, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was instrumental in championing women's rights and social development across the country.

As the founder of the 31st December Women's Movement, she worked tirelessly to promote gender equality, community development, and economic empowerment for women in Ghana and beyond.

The government is expected to release further details regarding funeral arrangements and official commemorations in the coming days.
