The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has shared an update on the tragic collapse of a building at Adenta New Site on the evening of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Regional Fire Officer, ACFO Rashid Kwame, in an interview with the media team of the GNFS, stated that the collapsed structure was a two-storey building.
He said that five people were trapped in the building, out of which four had been rescued.
Even though he did not categorically state that the fifth person was dead, he indicated that the firefighters, together with some personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, were working to retrieve her body.
“There were five people who were trapped, but four have been rescued. Unfortunately, one person who is a female is still under the rubble, and efforts are being made by the men to retrieve the body,” he said.
The Regional Fire Officer explained that it was proving a little difficult to retrieve the woman because of where her body was trapped.
“She is in between two pillars, and the men are doing the chiselling… I’m hopeful that we will be able to retrieve her body,” he said.
He said the four people who were rescued had been transported to the 37 Military Hospital for medical attention.
He said that preliminary investigations showed that the building had a lot of issues, with residents saying that it was slanted.
He also said that residents confirmed that there was a manhole close to some of the pillars of the storey building, which was not ideal.
The fire officer who was taking the video indicated that a family of five people — two females and three males — were the ones trapped in the collapsed building.
He stated that the woman whose body was still trapped was the mother of two of the people who were rescued.
He added that the woman was 38 years old and had been identified as Margaret.
