Family Focus Seeks Links

An NGO, Family Focus based in Chicago has paid a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Minister Mr. S.K. Boafo.

The delegation led by Mrs. Delores Holmes said Family Focus aims at promoting the well being of children by supporting and strengthening their families. She said the visit is to identify similar organisations in Ghana to liaise with.

The areas her organisation takes an interest in include orphanages, child development centres and schools.

She said the centre has a department for pregnant teens that prepares them for the demands of parenthood and provides them with medical, educational and peer and professional mentoring. Also Family Focus moves children and the youth towards a successful future, helps families thrive as their children change, and sets the foundation for a community in which the families and their children can grow.

The weeklong visit includes visits to child welfare clinics, early childhood development centres, basic schools and orphanages.

The Regional Minister expressed happiness about the initiative by Family Focus to study the Ghanaian way of maintaining children and their aim at finding solutions to the areas that need help.

He asked Mrs. Holmes to market Ghana in the United States for possible aid in the child-development sector.

The Delegation was received by the Regional Co-ordinator for the Ghana National Commission on Children, Mr. Peter Eduful who disclosed that the coalition of NGOs would soon come out with proposals for the handling of street children.
