Falling building traps two church elders

Aflao, Aug. 16, GNA - Two elders of the Redemption Church, Aflao, are in critical condition at the Ketu South District Hospital Aflao, having been trapped in their Church premises when parts of a three-storey building of the Kekeli School, collapsed on them during worship on Sunday.

Mr Daniel Abbah, Deacon and Ms Florence Kaley, Women's Leader, were among a group of members preparing the premises for worship at about 0850 hours when the incident occurred at the Lowcost Area in Aflao. Mr John Akama, A teacher trainee, living near the place said he heard a big bang from the direction, where the incident occurred and together with others rushed to the spot and found the two trapped under the debris.

He said he assisted in removing the two, who sustained head injuries and were rushed to the Ketu South District Hospital. Miss Matilda Rose Kwawu, one of those then tidying up the place for worship at the time, said they heard a cracking noise above and all of them but their two colleagues and managed to escape.

Mr Emmanuel Mawuli, Proprietor of the Kekeli School, told the GNA that he rushed to the school on hearing of the incident and he saw the collapsed building and the church's instruments, which were destroyed. Miss Matilda Atiogbe, a staff nurse of the Ketu South District Hospital confirmed the admission of the two whom she said had been taken to the theatre.
