Fake Voter IDs On Sale

The Sunyani District Electoral Officer, Anthony Oppong and two others are helping the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command in their investigation into an alleged sale of fake voters’ identity cards. The others are Cecilia Pomaah, a typist and Franklin Asiamah, a Customs officer at Gonokrom in the Dormaa District.

They were interrogated and later granted Police enquiry bail last Thursday. A fourth accomplice, Eric Boamah is said to have traveled out of town and the police are looking for him. The cards, the numbers of which begin with the code of Dormaa Ahenkro are believed to be on sale in the Sunyani and Dormaa Districts.

Some of the holders are said to have used them to purchase GSM clips from the Ghana Telecom Office in Sunyani. The Police have confirmed the incident but would not give details saying that the case was still under investigation. They were alerted by an informant from Gonokrom.
