Fake Cosultant Charged With Fraud

Accra, Sept 3, An Accra circuit tribunal today remanded in custody a 43-year-old self-styled marketing consultant charged with fraud and evading tax. Nana Ohene Akoto, variously known as King Ohene Akoto and Nana Ohene, who appeared before the court on warrant, pleaded not rpt not guilty and the case was fixed for hearing on September 17. Asking for bail, Mr Alex Baafour Gyimah counsel for the accused, said his client could not rpt not appear before the tribunal on Monday, August eleven, due to illness arising out of his 21 days in detention. He pleaded for bail, saying at the appropriate time,he would prove his client's innocence during the trial. The tribunal, however, rejected the application for bail. The prosecution told the court that in January this year,the accused introduced himself to Global Guest House as a marketing consultant who could help them acquire Split Air-conditioners without paying tax. At the request of the accused, Global Guest House paid the accused 7.5 million cedis commission. The application for tax exemption was approved for 25 sets of Split Air-conditioners. The accused collected them from Cold Temperatures to deliver to Global Guest House but sold them for four million cedis a set instead of three million cedis, the exemption value for a set, thus making a profit of 25 million cedis. The prosecution said in June, this year, CEPS visited the Global Guest House to inspect the air-conditionings but learnt that the management had not rpt not received the air-conditioners from the accused. Global Guest House therefore lodged a complaint with the police and the accused was arrested at 9.30 p.m. while worshipping at the International Bible Worship Centre at Kokomlemle, the prosecution said.
