The celebration of Labour Day in 2019 was by far one of the most eventful ones.

Large pillows of thick dark clouds formed over the Black Star Square on the morning of the national May Day parade. This was shortly followed by whirring noise of the wind which began lifting anything light that stood in its way.

The rain began to pour intensely, causing several workers who had converged to commemorate the Labour Day to disperse.

However, this disruption of the annual May Day celebration was only for a short while and did not take away the emotions of participants who had come from several parts of the country to express their sentiments to the president.

Shortly after the rain stopped, participants converged once again, sang several renditions of ‘jamma’ songs in groups, while others went ahead to stage their planned demonstrations.

In fact, about 35 Labour Unions stormed the Black Star Square with placards to stage their protests.

Nonetheless, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was there as usual to deliver his speech, which he used to outdoor the Ghana Beyond Aid Charter and also inspired some calm.
