FDB gets tough with filtered water producers

Kumasi, Dec 20, GNA-The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) has banned the production and sale of two brands of filtered water in Kumasi and has consequently advised the public not to patronise their consumption. They are 'God Bless Drinking Water' and Jesus Loves You Drinking Water'.

A release issued in Kumasi and signed by Mr P.K. Agyemang-Duah, the Zonal Officer of the Board on Friday said the factory of God Bless Drinking Water produced by W.K. Adu Enterprise at Tafo-Nhyiaeso, had also been closed down.

The release said the water was being produced under unhygienic environment near a refuse dump and that all efforts to advise the producer to relocate the factory had proved unsuccessful and as a result the board had no option than to close down the factory since it could not guarantee the quality and safety of the water.

On 'Jesus Loves You Drinking Water', the Board said the water had been found to contain certain particles and all efforts to relocate the production process had proved futile.

The board has therefore, asked all supermarkets, Shell shops, Mobil Mats and other ventures who still had stocks of the two brands of filtered water to return them to it.

It assured the public that it would do everything possible to ensure the safety of the people.

In a related development, the Board has warned all people in the metropolis, who were illegally and unlawfully preparing fake perfume products for sale, to desist from the act or face the full rigours of the law.

A release to this effect said it had come to the notice of the Board that these unscrupulous people purchased used containers of the original perfume products and refill them with imitated ones for sale to the unsuspecting customers.

The board has therefore, alerted the public to be careful when purchasing these products, especially when they are displayed on wheelbarrows and trucks.

It advised distributors and retailers to be on the look-out and purchase their bulk products from well-established sources and keep the invoices and receipts on them for regulatory investigations. The board therefore, reminded the general public that the sale and distribution of unregistered and unwholesome products contravened the Food and Drugs Law, PNDCL 305 B.
