FDA seizes more than 800 cartons of expired Lucozade energy drink at Lapaz

The timely intervention of the Food and Drugs Authority at a warehouse at Lapaz, Accra, prevented the distribution and sale of expired Lucozade energy drinks unto the Ghanaian market, ABC News can report.

About 802 cartons of relabeled Lucozade drinks belonging to Andriana Royal Ventures were confiscated at a warehouse in HongKong a suburb of Lapaz.

According to the Food and Drugs Authority, at the time of their arrival, two people believed to be workers of the enterprise were caught tampering with the expiry date of the drinks.

In a press statement to announce the arrest of the two and provide details about the expired Lucozade energy drinks that were seized, the Chief Executive Officer of FDA, Mrs. Delese A. A. Darko revealed that the expiry dates of the canned drinks were being changed from September 2019 to September 2020.

She warned the general public to be on the lookout for consignments of canned Lucozade whose expiry dates have been tampered with.

ABC News can report that he statement noted, “The Food and Drugs Authority wishes to bring to the attention of the general public that on Saturday, 7th September 2019 it detained a consignment of canned Lucozade belonging to Andiana Royal Ventures at a warehouse in Hong Kong near Lapaz in Accra.”

“The FDA, therefore, wishes to advise the general public to critically examine any canned Lucozade they wish to patronise and ensure NOT to purchase any having batch numbers SEP 19 L4A and SEP 19 L48 with an expiry date of September 2020” the FDA cautioned.

PRESS RELEASE: FDA DETAINS 8-2 CARTONS OF RELABELLED LUCOZADE

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) wishes to bring to the attention of the general public that on Saturday, 7th September, 2019 it detained a consignment of canned Lucozade belonging to Andiana Royal Ventures at a warehouse in Hong Kong near Lapaz in Accra.

The expiry dates of the canned Lucozade were being deliberately and fraudulently changed from September 2019 to September 2020.

The batch numbers of the said canned Lucozade include SEP 19 LAA and SEP 19 L48.

The information on the relabelling got to the FDA through a journalist last Saturday and immediately the FDA dispatched officers who worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure the detention of the consignment.

Meanwhile, two persons who were involved in the tampering of the date markings have been arrested and are assisting the police in their investigation.

The FDA, therefore, wishes to advise the general public to critically examine any canned Lucozade they wish to patronise and ensure NOT to purchase any having batch numbers SEP 19 L4A and SEP 19 L48 with an expiry date of September 2020.

The FDA wishes to emphasis that the well-being of the general public is it’s priority and therefore, its activities are designed to provide continuous assurance of safety of all foods, medicines, cosmetics, household chemical substance, and medical devices.
