FAO donates to Agricultural Engineering Department

Accra, Dec. 15, GNA - The Africa Regional Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Accra, Mr Pape Djiby Kone on Wednesday donated a 275 KVA generator and transformer to the Department of Agricultural Engineering of the University of Ghana, Legon.

The donation, made on behalf of the Rome-based FAO, was received Dr Richard Bani, Head of Department of Agricultural Engineering. Mr Kone said it was the policy of FAO to donate slightly used equipment to institutions in countries in which they were located to enhance teaching and research.

The Africa Regional Office in Accra handles 43 countries in Africa. Dr Bani thanked the FAO and said the Department, which is a new one, needed more equipment to enhance its growth and called for more assistance from the FAO.

Dr Jossef Tadesse, Finance and Administration Officer in Charge of the Regional Office, said 16 slightly used computers valued at 22,000 dollars had been donated to a number educational institutions.
