The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashaiman Constituency led by its executive are demanding a one-month extension each for the ongoing Electoral Commission's Limited Voter Registration exercise and that of the National Identification Authority (NIA) card.

According to them, both exercises has been fraught with extreme challenges, hence, majority of the Ashaiman population will go unregistered if the duration is not extended.

Addressing a news conference in the Municipality, the Constituency Secretary Mr Allen Joe De-Graft Quantson accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of conniving with the EC and the NIA to deny eligible people within the eastern corridor of Accra from registering over fear of losing the upcoming general elections since the NDC is dominant in those areas.

According to Mr Quantson, Ashaiman has a wider voter population of 136,000 with 227 polling stations, hence, the extension of the duration will help reduce the level of anxiety that has bedeviled the entire exercise.

For his part, the Ashaiman Constituency Chairman, Mr Tony Afenyo, questions why both exercises could run concurrently amidst difficulties.
