The Ghana Meteorological Agency has signaled to the public that the eastern coast of Ghana will experience a lot of rainfall with the onset of the wet season.
The eastern coast covers areas along the coastal belts of the country, spanning from Aflao in the Volta Region to the Cape Coast in the Central Region.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb on March 26, 2025, Joseph Portuphy, the Deputy Director of Synoptic Meteorology and Forecasting, stated that the eastern coast will experience more rains with the onset of the wet season.
“Raining season has started for the eastern coast. The eastern coast covers the areas from Aflao to some parts of Cape Coast.
“This year, the wet season will be above average rainfall per our forecasting. This means that compared to last year and last two years, there will be more rains this year,” he said.
He stated that the Ghana Meteorological Agency’s forecasting shows that the eastern coast will have above average downpours.
This literally means that the eastern coastal belt will experience more rainfalls in 2025 than what was experienced in 2024.
Addressing the timelines for the onset of rains for the year, Portuphy indicated that their forecasting predicted that the wet season would start from the 4th Week of March.
He cited the downpour on March 25 as a perfect indication that the season has kicked off and urged the public to take precautions to avoid being caught up in dangers posed by heavy rainfalls.
