Exhibition of Voters' Register in Progress

The exhibition of the voters' register entered its second day yesterday with the usual low response to such exercises by the voters.

At most exhibition centres visited by GNA on Wednesday, less than 10 voters had checked their records on the first day while by mid-day on the second day less than five had verified their records.

The centres included Awudome Kingsway, St. Theresa Preparatory School at North Kaneshie, Blema Gor at Abeka Market, Blessed Home Preparatory School at Akweteman, Achimota Preparatory, Kotobabi 3A and B Girls J.S.S. and Nima Catholic Church.

Mr Stephen Owuredu Jnr., Exhibition Officer at Nima Catholic Church, said only five voters had checked their names by mid-day yesterday for a centre that covers 24 polling stations.

He complained of poor publicity and lack of directional signs to the centres and called on the Electoral Commission to revamp its publicity outfit to enhance its information flow.

The seven-day exercise from April 23 to April 29 is intended to offer registered voters and those who changed their polling stations the opportunity to crosscheck their records.

It would also be used to clean the register.

The Electoral Commission has called on the public to volunteer information on dead relatives and appealed to those, who might have done double registration to notify the Exhibition Officials to remove the second names.
