Ex parte motion filed in court against Chronicle editor

An ex parte motion has been filed by the Attorney Generals Department at an Accra Regional Tribunal, for leave to commence contempt proceedings against the Editor and two reporters of the Ghanaian Chronicle. This is because they allegedly published false reports of a case before the tribunal. The three are Mr. Ebo Quansah, Ken Ampong and Sani Siddiq. They are alleged to have published materials calculated to prejudice the due course of Justice, in a case in which two policemen are charged with stealing an amount of a hundred million cedis from the room of Dr. Obed Asamoah, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. The motion states that the respondents in the February four to 13 edition of the paper, published matters which were false and were not a true reflection of actual proceedings at the tribunal and that the report was calculated to attack the credibility of Dr. Asamoah. The case will be heard on the 27th of February.
