Ex-Soldiers Appeal for Re-Instatement

Two ex-personal of the Ghana Armed Forces, WOI Alex Adu-Hope and Sergeant. Ekow Ghansah who say they were unjustly released from office have petitioned the Minister of Defence and the hierarchy of the Ghana Armed Forces to reinstate them.

The two persons who served for 23 and 18 years respectively said they were not sure why they were released but believed it could be because of their involvement in the retrieval of ?35,200,000 for an Accra businessman, Nat Adu Nyantakyi.

They said the businessman was robbed in broad daylight, at gunpoint by some soldiers and a civilian of an amount of ?63,000,000 and he reported the case to them at the 64 Regiment in Accra.

They undertook to investigate the matter and using the descriptions given them by Nyantakyi, came up with the names, W.O.I Emmanuel Spiro Mensah, Staff Sergeant Ogordor, Corporal Asante, Private Adaliban and one Ernest Boateng, a civilian who was at large for some time as the people involved in the said robbery. They said they managed to retrieve part of the money (?35,000,000) for the businessman and also reported the case to their superior officers.

The Military Police arrested and detained the soldiers involved in the robbery with the exception of W.O.I. Emmanuel Spiro Mensah who is still at post. The civilian was also arrested and detained at the CID Headquarters, Accra.

The two men said not long after that, they were notified that they had been released from the Ghana Armed Forces without their terminal benefits.

"We appeal to the Minister of Defence to set up an independent body to go into the matter because W.O.I. Emmanuel Spiro Mensah who was part of the said robbery is still in the Armed Forces."

They said they were only helping a citizen who had been robbed, and deserve commendation and not condemnation. "We therefore humbly petition the Armed Force hierarchy to please re-instate us into the Ghana Armed Forces since we have not been charged with any crime
