Ever wondered what it feels like to have a brother put his life on hold for his siblings? It is a rare and profound act of love to see someone sacrifice their university education to allow others to pursue theirs.

In this new episode of Everyday People on GhanaWeb TV, we meet Nathaniel, a first-year student at Accra Technical University.

Nathaniel shares with GhanaWeb’s Victoria Kyei Baffour how after completing senior high school in 2014, he was set to continue to university but decided to delay his own education and work for several years to support his siblings' educational journeys.

Fast forward to 2024, Nathaniel has managed to enroll himself in university by selling rubber packs over the past five years.

Despite his own studies, he said he continues to support his siblings, alongside his parents.

“I am in the university now, Accra Technical University, studying public management and in level 100 now. I completed senior high school in 2014. Those times I was… my brothers were actually schooling so I was just working just to support some whiles my parents were also supporting some. So, I started working here. I actually started working at Piccadilly Biscuit. After that, I was just at home for some years and I started working here just to support myself to gather some money to start university."

Although Nathaniel is not the eldest of his brothers, he said he feels a strong responsibility to support his parents in ensuring his siblings complete their education.

He is currently studying public management in school and aspires to become an administrator in the future.
