Executive Director of Irbard Security Consult, Alhaji Irbard Ibrahim has claimed that even a pillow can be used to stage a coup if the coup plotter succeeds in smothering the President with it.

“Even a pillow can be used for a coup d’état by smothering the President. Don’t expect Tomahawk Cruise Missiles for a coup. And no weapon is too basic,” Alhaji Ibrahim argued in a Facebook video today.

His comments seem to be a reaction to the ridicule government’s claims of an attempt to destabilize the country have received. Many on social media have mocked the claim by Information Minster that three persons in concert with others planned to destabilize the government.

But the self-acclaimed security analyst argues that ” you don’t need a whole truckload of weapons to carry out a coup d’état. The weapons that have been put on display look basic but we can’t take any chances as a country.”

His assertion are in support of those of Prof Kwaku Asare who has stated that one does not need sophisticated weapons to stage a coup since with basic weapons, the guard at the armory could be overpowered so as to have access to the armory that contains the weapons with which a coup can be staged successfully.

Alhaji Ibrahim has therefore enjoined all Ghanaians to praise the security and intelligence agencies for forestalling the plot to destabilize the government.

“Let’s all commend our state security and intelligence agencies for acting swiftly and with so much precision to stop any mayhem,” he urged.

Meanwhile the alleged coup plotters have been charged and remanded in custody.
