The final resting place of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the late former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has become the talk of the town following his burial on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
A video of the burial site, which surfaced online shortly after the ceremony, has triggered widespread reactions on social media platform X.
According to multiple reports, the building in which Kumi was buried was originally intended to be his family home. He had begun constructing it with plans to settle there after its completion.

However, his untimely death meant he never lived in the house. The family later completed the building and chose it as his final resting place.
The video of the burial site has generated mixed reactions. Some users questioned why such a house would be dedicated to a deceased person, even highlighting the installation of an air conditioner in the burial room.
Others drew comparisons between Kumi’s burial site and the mausoleums of global icons such as Michael Jackson and Queen Elizabeth II.
Supporters, however, argued that the late MP deserved such an honour, noting his commitment to his community and the many people he supported during his lifetime.

One user wrote: “Why will the state allow individuals to waste the little energy we have? Putting AC at a cemetery should be considered a crime.”
Another commented: “This is unreasonable. Even Michael Jackson and John F. Kennedy don’t have a resting place like this. Did JM allow this?”
A third user added humorously: “The electricity be prepaid or postpaid… anaaaa connection dey in?”

No one has the right to control how someone spends their money, but since he is an MP who supports many people and a Santaclausian, it would have been preferable if the money was spent on something that benefits the public, like a children’s ward or a classroom.
