A helicopter reportedly transporting the body of the former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, touched down in his hometown, Akyem-Wenchi, on December 5, 2025.
A video shared by The State News on X captured residents rushing toward the landing site, eager to witness the emotional moment.
Kumi, who entered Parliament as a first-time MP on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, had in recent months been at the centre of a major legal and political controversy over the legitimacy of the Akwatia parliamentary seat.

His death occurred just weeks after the Supreme Court overturned his contempt conviction relating to the disputed 2024 parliamentary election results.
Earlier, in February 2025, the Koforidua High Court had found him guilty of contempt after he defied an interim injunction preventing him from presenting himself for swearing-in as an MP.
The court later issued a bench warrant for his arrest, citing his failure to attend proceedings and his disregard for judicial orders.
