Enthusiastic crowd welcomes President at Obuasi

Obuasi (Ash), Aug. 22, GNA - The popularity of President John Agyekum Kufuor in Asanteman, the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was abundantly displayed when he officially resumed his tour of the Ashanti Region last Thursday.

The scene at Obuasi was overwhelming as the entire mining town was thrown into frenzy from the outskirts to the precincts of the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium where he addressed a colourful durbar of the chiefs and people of Adansi.

A milling crowd lined up the streets with the youth out-numbering the old when the convoy moved to the durbar grounds.

They cheered, waved and signalled the NPP slogan and gestures that were responded to by President Kufuor who rode through the town in an open car.

The people surged forward and the security personnel had a hectic time controlling them.

Similar milling crowds were seen at Bekwai, Fumso, Adansi-Asokwa, Dompoase, Fomena and New Edubiase, all major towns along the main road linking Adansi West and Adansi East Districts.
