Enquirer Releases Tape

Audio: Listen to the tape
The editor of the Enquirer has made available for broadcast this morning a taped recording which the newspaper says points at the Presidency hijacking and disbursing money collected from contractors for the ruling party.

The party chairman is alleged to have expressed unhappiness about the President hijacking he funds.

Both the Castle and Mr Esseku have denied the allegation.

A local radio station - JoyFM - has already broadcast portions of the tape in which Mr. Harona Esseku told some NPP delegates that ministers were awarding contracts to NDC contractors because if they did to NPP contractors they wouldn?t be able to collect paybacks from them because of President Kufuor?s Zero Tolerance for corruption policy.

Mr. Esseku told the delegates at the secret campaign meeting (Mr. Esseku is seeking re-election) that the ministers were afraid of the policy and because of that ?NPP contractors are suffering?.

Mr. Esseku has confirmed that his voice was indeed the one on the tape but says that was a private meeting as such could not be used against him.

He inisists that the Enquirer is not telling the truth and still demands that he did not say anything about kick backs.

myjoyonline would soon make available the full recording of the tape as a pop-up audio on the front page.
