Agencies and departments under the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations have been asked to work together, and give premium to employment creation, to achieve the vision of President John Dramani Mahama.
Nii Armah Ashietey, the sector Minister, who made the call, said: “We must work to create opportunities and energies jobs and protect the rights of workers. We must promote fairness and equity of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) and as well harmonise labour issues”, Mr. Ashietey advised.
The Minister was interacting with Management and Staff of the National Labour Commission (NLC), to find out challenges facing the Commission with the view to addressing some of them.
He appealed to the Tripartite Committee, comprising the Trades Union Congress, Employers Association and Government not to limit their operations to salary negotiation, but work together to promote peaceful environment and cooperation to enhance sanity in the industrial sector.
Mr. Ashietey urged them to play their roles appropriately and ensure discipline at the workplace to help maximize the opportunities available, despite challenges that confronted the sector.
He called for a change of attitude among Ghanaian workers towards work, saying, “Not just come to work but come to work and work diligently to increase productivity”.
Mr Ashiety said the Commission has a duty to coordinate employment and labour issues, and urged management and staff under the Ministry to work collectively to deliver on that mandate.
“The Commission has an important role to play. When workers are happy, employers are happy and government is happy”, he said.
