Takoradi (W/R), Aug. 30, GNA - A total number of 150 pupil teachers pursuing a four-year intensive programme under the Untrained Teachers Diploma in Basic Education (UTDBE) in the Ellembelle District, have received assistance from the Assembly.
The GH¢ 8,000 sponsorship package was provided by the Assembly and the MP for the area.
Addressing the teachers in Takoradi, the DCE, Mr. Daniel K. Eshun, said education remained a priority of the government in its quest to speed up national development.
He said though the Assembly is faced with many challenges, it would ensure that qualified teachers are posted to improve the quality of education in the area.
Mr. Eshun asked teachers to accept postings to deprived areas of the district on completion of their course.
The MP for the area, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, congratulated the teachers on their vision to upgrade their knowledge and urged them to study hard to attain higher academic laurels.
He did indicate that the growth of every nation depended on its human resource, adding that, "it is only through education that a nation can have good leaders and we will continue to support you to improve educational standards in the country.
Mr. Buah revealed that as a way of promoting education in the area, the district would institute a "Teacher's Recognition Award" to motivate teachers to give of their best.
A representative of the group, Mr. Gideon Baidoo, thanked the MP and DCE for making time to visit them, adding that, it was the first time they had witnessed such a timely intervention after applying for assistance from the Assembly.
They promised to work hard to produce better results.
