Election2000: NPP suspends four members

THE Eastern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended four leading members of the party for engaging in acts inimical to the its development in the region.

They are Messrs Ebenezer Opare Addo, Chairman and Christian Yirenkyi Boateng, Secretary of the Akropong Constituency as well as B.B. Addo and James Atta Effah, Abetifi Constituency Organiser and Youth Organiser respectively.

This was contained in a statement issued by the party and signed by the Regional Secretary, Mr S.M. Ahyia at Koforidua.

“They are relieved of their posts and suspended from the party with immediate effect”, the statement said, adding that the said gentlemen have no authority to transact business either for or on his behalf of the party nor can they put themselves up as representing the party at any level.

The statement further stressed that the official NPP parliamentary candidate for Abetifi and Akropong Constituencies are Messrs Eugene Atta Agyepong and Agyare Koi Larbi respectively and called on party faithful to rally behind them in order to win next month’s elections.

In another development, the party has noted with concern the use of its symbol and other paraphernalia by Dr Albert Gyan Boohene, an independent candidate in the Akropong Constituency for his campaign.

The party alleged that Dr Boohene allegedly uses NPP symbols alongside his own campaigns to wrest the parliamentary seat .

It described Dr Boohene’s action as highly provocative and called on the security agencies in the constituency to take the necessary action to bring him to order in the interest of peace in the area.
