An elderly man and caretaker of a building affected by the demolition of structures at the Sakumono Ramsar Site in Accra has reportedly received support from some religious organisations.
The man seen in the viral video wailing over the loss of his possessions has been identified as Nyarko.
His emotional reaction during the demolition exercise went viral, attracting the attention of the Ultimate Charismatic Centre and the Roman Catholic Church in Lashibi, who have intervened in his situation by offering him accommodation and other support.
Nyarko was captured in widely circulated videos and photographs on May 7, 2026, weeping as the structure where he and his family lived was demolished as part of an exercise to halt illegal developments within the Ramsar enclave.
The footage, which showed two of his children comforting him amid the rubble, sparked public sympathy and renewed discussion about the impact of the demolition on vulnerable persons.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com published on May 11, 2026, it was later clarified that the demolished building did not belong to Nyarko.

“He had been living there with his family as a caretaker,” the report said.
In the viral video, Nyarko lamented that he had not been given enough time to remove his belongings before the demolition began, noting that many of their possessions were still inside the structure.
The report indicated that Nyarko and his children had previously been staying in an uncompleted building but are currently being housed temporarily in a facility owned by the Roman Catholic Church in Lashibi.
During a church service on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the Ultimate Charismatic Centre, Nyarko was invited to the pulpit as a symbolic act of compassion and restoration.
The head pastor, Akwasi Agyeman Prempeh, announced that the church would pay for Nyarko’s accommodation for two years and provide additional support to help the family regain stability.
“We will support him for two years,” Prophet Prempeh said.
He added that once the family’s temporary stay at the Catholic Church facility lapses, the church will secure rental accommodation and continue assisting them for at least two years.
